Ontariolo

Welp, I’m back in Oakville Ontario now, ready to go back to school. Flew back in yesterday. Nothing interesting except my bed sorta’ smelt like cat litter for some reason. Nothing a quick sheet change cant fix. I’m still making some final changes to Locust 03. Currently I’m going back and fancyfying up the backgrounds so they don’t look nearly as deserted. On Friday through Sunday I’ll be heading off to the FanExpo comic convention in Toronto to sell prints and posters and comics and whatnot. Hopefully I’ll be able to meet some interesting people and rake in some good cash. More comic and site updates to come.

Locust 03 Compleated!
Auguest 10th , 2007

Last page of chapter 03 is up! Hurrah! Sorry for the long delay, I’ve been busy as hell the last week getting stuff ready, and selling stuff at the Saskatoon Fringe festival. It’s a theater festival that’s held every year, and I sell artwork (mostly prints) on the streets along with a myriad of other buskers and merchants. There’s still two more days left, but it’s been pretty slow this year. General attendance seems to be declining in recent years at the fringe. Hopefully I’ll be able to generate some more moolah at the Fan Expo in Toronto later in the month.
Now that chapter 03 of Locust is “done”, there are a few things to be done. First I’m going to do some editing of 03 (fix/tweak some artwork, change some dialogue, etc etc), then the website will get a little loving. I’ll finally finish all the placeholder graphics and hopefully get the online store up and running, as well as adding some more stuff to the Locust info section. After that I’m going to go on a publicity drive around the intronets to try and drum up some kind of community and hopefully get the forums kicking.
That’s all for now, check back soon for site updates!

All Quiet

Late night, page 22 is up. No news to report. Gotta work tomorrow till Saturday. Now I’m gunna go read Harry Potter.

Long Weekend
July 16th , 2007

Whew, three days off work. Not much to report. I moved my bed into the basement of my parent’s house because they’re putting in cork floors upstairs. Now that I got this week’s comic page out of the way, I need to get my shit in gear for the Fringe Fest. Gotta get some buttons made, check my print inventory, and hopefully crank out a couple more pictures to sell.
That’s all for now.

PS. I just got some new socks. Man I love new socks.

Pchew Pchew, Robots n' Stuff!
July 10th , 2007

Page 20 up, now with 200% more bums.
My good buddy Travis(Bane on the Forums) is moving to British Columbia on Wednesday, and we’ve shared many a fun time. I’m sure he’ll be missed by all of us in Saskatoon, but I wish him happy trails and good adventures in his future endeavors!
I saw Transformers for the second time tonight, and it’s just as holyshitawesome the second time ‘round. If you love big friggin robots exploding the crap out of stuff, then see this movie ASAP. Words can barely describe the raw beauty of a 40 foot tall helicopter-mech blasting through a military base with auto-cannons, rockets, and giant plasma guns. Nerdgasm to the extreme.
It recently dawned on me that the Fringe Festival is only 3 weeks away (August 2nd, Broadway street, Saskatoon) and I should probably get my ass in gear to sell stuff this year. I need to get my friend up in Ontario to make me some more buttons, and I should probably check my inventories here to figure out what prints I need to make. More news on that later.
Lastly, I just figured out that I’ve been running my new widescreen monitor at the wrong resolution (1:77 as opposed to 1:6), which means that all the pictures and Locust pages I’ve made using it are 10% wider then they should be. So now I have some resizing to do. If some images look a little different then you remember, its because they’ve been adjusted to what they’re actually supposed to look like (when I made them).
Ta ta for now.

McGibs the Butcher
July 2nd , 2007

Back again after a long absence. No one told me that working actually takes up free time. What the hell is with that? I need that time to play video games! And work on Locust I guess…
After a week and a half of weeding fields of canola (hoeing dirt for eight hours in the blazing sun isn’t a job I’d recommend) I finally got a more stable job as a butcher at a cool old-timey cheese shop. I sell people steaks and make beef jerky all day. It’s pretty swank.
In other news, there are 2 new locust pages up (18 and 19) with only three pages or so more to go for this issue (hurrah!), and also a few new images up in the gallery. I was recently commissioned by Officer I.T. Van Patten to do some cool military character pinups for his RPG universe. The first in the series is the Tacterrian Captain , which was a blast to draw. So a shoutout to him for hiring me!
In the nerd news, the long awaited Halflife2 modern combat mod Insurgency was released today. It’s amazingly solid for a first release, so if you like shooty stuff, go check it out! I’ll also be going to see the Transformers movie on opening night on Wednesday, so stay tuned for my rave review (and spoilers :p)
That’s all I got for now.
Cheers!

Wurk Wurk.

Blah, long time no update. I finally got me a job. Albeit at very crummy one. I’m now a “Peon for Rent” for an employment association (odd job squad), so I basically just go to different places and do menial labor that none of the employees want to do. I spent most of last week cutting big steel frames into small steel frames with a chop saw, and I’ll be spending most of this week pulling weeds out of fields of research crops. But whatever makes the coin I guess. In other news, I accidentally sent my ipod on an adventure through the washing machine (always check your pockets before doing laundry!). More surprisingly, the little bastard still works! The battery is kinda’ wigging out I think, but other then that, it runs fine. My hat goes off to Apple for a fine and hearty product. I also finally got the correct video card this week after that whole mis-ordering problem. Computer games have never been so purdy

I didn’t get that tech support job, so hopefully something I can snag something else before the summer gets much older. My birthday was yesterday, and my thanks to everyone who wished me a happy 20th birthday on facebook and elsewhere. I got a new 20 inch widescreen LCD monitor (a few weeks ago, but it still counts as a present), a shiny Celtic ring, some awesome antique Canadian military medals, and a new Video card. Unfortunately, we accidentally ordered a card with the wrong connection bus, so it’s currently being exchanged for the right one. Hopefully I’ll get it next week and finally be able to play computer games with sexy graphics.

Progress
May 20th , 2007

Page 15 is finally up (ten + panel pages kill me).
I went and saw 28 weeks later last week. It sucked. I have a natural bias towards horror movies due to their usual use of “stupid” to advance the plot, but this movie was nothing but. The entire basis of the film was fueled by stupid. Then they had some extra dumb on top just to play it safe…
I’m still trying to get a summer job, and hopefully I’ll have some better luck next week. I applied to this tech support place, and everything is pretty much done except for the fact that they need a business reference. Well, the place I worked last year closed down and I cant find either of my supervisors. After that, I don’t have any contacts of previous jobs outside of freelance illustrating. So I’ll have to argue with the HR person there as to why exactly they need a business reference, and cant use any of my other fine references. I also hope to get some contract work for this media place doing storyboards or whatnot, I just have to wait for them to actually get a project going. Third pursuit is coordinating this summer art camp for kids at the university here. Should be fun if I can land it.
Oh, and Starcraft 2 was announced yesterday. I spent the greater part of my youth playing the first Starcraft, and my god, the sequel looks to bring back the glory of its predecessor. Check it out at Starcraft2.com.

Summer's a Started
May 5th , 2007

Well, I’m back home in Saskatoon for the summer. Its flat. I’ve just been slacking off the last week, so I guess I need to find a job soon. I just got back from paintballing with my Dad, and I’m sore and stiff, so I’m going to go take a nap.
Page 14 is up by the by.

Level 2 Compleated!
April 26th , 2007

Whew, another long delay, but page 13 is finally up. I just finished my second year of my four year illustration program at Sheridan, so huzzah! Halfway done! This past week has been dedicated to drunken shenanigans with comrades, sleeping until 7pm, and eating far too much half price ice-cream. The graduating first year students are throwing a grad show in Toronto tonight. It should be a great final end to the school year. After that, I’ll be flying back to Saskatoon on the 28th for 4 months of flatland fun. Unfortunately, it looks like my Reservist application didn’t go through (army bureaucracy is something to behold…) so it looks like I’ll have to get a real job this summer.

Sorry for the hiatus, school is starting to wrap up and the dreaded end of year cram is beginning to approach. I’ve got an Art History exam to write tomorrow, two portfolios to do for Life Drawing, an editorial illustration for my Conceptual class, two huge paintings to finish, and a little flash animation thing to start, all of which has to be done in two weeks. So forgive me if the comics are a little late for the next while. I did however manage to get page 12 done tonight between episodes of the Venture Brothers and not studying for aforementioned exam. Enjoy!

Some stuff and stuff

Only one month left of school. I’m aiming to finish chapter 03 before I bugger off for the reserves.

Locust update
March 17th, 2007

Quick update, page 9 is up now. Some minor website updates will be done in the next few days, including an archives link in the Locust navigation bar, and hopefully some new graphics for title bars and link banners.

Enjoy!

Website Launch!
March 12th, 2007

It's finally up! Well, a test version anyways. I still have to polish it up and add proper title bars and stuff, but its up! After years and years of using that shitty ftp index page, I finally have a friggin’ website.

So I formally welcome you to my brand spanking new site, home of Locust, my comic project.
On this homepage you will find my blog, which you are currently reading. It will be updated whenever I have something to update. To the right, you will see a link to the most recent Locust page, which will take you to the comic section of the site. Bellow that you will find my most recent artwork, starting with links to sketches and followed by links to recent finalized art. These links will cycle as I have new pieces to show. Older works can be seen in the Galleries section of the site.
The navigation bar at the top of the page will take you wherever you want to go, and it’s always there.
My Galleries contain lots of finalized artwork and illustrations, as well as a messload of sketches.
The Locust section contains all current pages of my comic, with a handy dandy navigation bar at the bottom of every page.
The Info section is for stuff pertaining to the Locust universe. There you will find all you need to know about characters, history, and other random jargon. You can also find the complete Locust archives there.
The Store is under construction, but soon you will be able to purchase printed Locust issues (so far just 00 and 01) as well as prints and whatever other merchandise I can come up with.
The Forums is where you can discuss the comic, post artwork, or just chat about whatever’s on your mind.
The Bio section contains information on myself, as well as contact information and links to other sites I fancy.

That about wraps it up. Explore the site, read the comic, look at the art, post on the forums, and let me know what you think!
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have mountains of homework to do...

Cheers.
