Age of the Phoenix
April 30th, 2008

Holy poop an update! School’s done for the year, and now I can actually start getting back into a regular work schedule again. So without further hesitation,
Locust is being halted.
Damn, I know. After long deliberation, I decided to stop the series because it’s just taking way too long to actually progress with the storyline and character development, and what I really have fun doing is creating the actual universe instead of the characters and story arcs and whatnot. So yeah, no more Locust. Sadface.
But before you all go writing me angry letters, I’m starting a new project instead.
“Phoenix Epoch” is basically the entire Locust history and timeline (which I would have never had time to completely unveil in locust) told using single issue storylines.
So, I’ve got this whole whopping long timeline (which you can read in full in the forums) that covers about 4000 years of human existence (or lack there of). Then I’m doing little stories from various times and perspectives. One might be about a Durus warband, another might be about a farmer and his family 500 years earlier, and another might be about a children’s cartoon that indoctrinates kids with religious propaganda. Fun stuff. And not to fear, characters from Locust will also appear in some of these issues. Why is Gabe so effed up? Why is Lexi also sorta’ screwed up? Find out later when I give them their own little issues.
This project will hopefully be more frequent, as well as being more interesting to write and read. It will really let me develop the universe as a whole, which is something I really enjoy doing.
I’ve also started doing some new concept art for redesigns which can be seen in the forums.
Stop by the forums and let me know what you think of my new project ideas. Issue 01 starts next week.

Sweet Chili Heat
February 29th , 2008

04-14 up. Uhm… news. My feet are cold. I think I ate too many Doritos, My pajama pants have a hole in the crotch. And I’m watching Mad TV.
Back tomorrow with the final two pages.

Final Sprint
February 28th , 2008

04-13 up. 3 more pages till end of issue.

Human masses
February 27th , 2008

Terrorists Win
February 25th , 2008

04-10 up. Angry old bald men rants continue. I have the next week off school for reading week, and due to the lack of homework, I’m going to attempt to do a Locust page a day. That is, if I don’t waste too much time playing my new DS. I just got my flash card for it in the mail, so I’m slowly filtering through thousands of games that my roommate left me on CDs. Spent way too many hours today playing Advance Wars until my neck seized up from being hunched over the tiny device.
I spent pretty much all of yesterday beating Call of Duty 4. I am never playing a call of duty game through on veteran difficulty EVER AGAIN. Its something like fighting off the entire cracked out hyper-twitchy population of Russia and the middle east, while they all throw heat seeking grenades at you from five kilometers away, and then zerg you with endless waves upon waves of cannon fodder until your gun jams and you die because its clogged with the bullet riddled bodied of terrorists. Rinse and repeat for 10 hours. But now it’s done and I never have to touch it ever again.

I’ll be back tomorrow with another page.

Were to Wurk?
February 17th , 2008

Page 9 up. I’m still looking for co-op places this summer. Going to send out my mass emails tomorrow to my list of game companies in the area. Hopefully that will yield better results then my school’s career center. If all else fails, I can fall back to freelancing. I’ve got a book illustrating job lined up, and it would be nice to spend 4 months working on Locust full time, maybe getting it into an actual publishing house. We’ll see how things unveil.
I also finally got a Nintendo DS (a cheap used one from a friend). Now I’m just waiting for my flashcard in the mail so I can start wasting time with it.

Battlestar Tripod
February 9th , 2008

04-08 up. I really like this looser style. It’s a lot faster and gives the scenes a lot more depth. In other news, my school underwent a 3 hour lockdown because someone phoned in a “gunman” who was eventually found out to be carrying a camera tripod. Fun stuff. I also started watching Battlestar Galactica (finally) and can see what the well deserved hype is about. Fantastic show. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to finish season 2.

Paint-a-doodle

February 3rd , 2008

New page up. Trying out a new looser painty style, rather then clean inked lines and block shadows. I’m liking it so far, and hopefully it should get tighter as I get a few more pages under my belt.

PS: I fucking hate drawing crowds.

We now return to your semi-regularly scheduled updates.

January 30th , 2008

Alright, time to get the factory started up again. Two months of no updates, here’s what I been up to. Went back home to Saskatoon for the Christmas holidays to see the folks and hang out with my friends. Didn’t do a whole lot of work there. I’ve spent the last month getting my portfolio ready to roll so I can get an internship job this summer, hopefully in the game industry. I made my first character model over the course of a week and learned a hell of a lot about 3dsmax and organic modeling. Now I’m getting Locust back on track (prepare for a style change next page), and as you can see, the website has a funky new colour scheme.

Operation Clean Sweep

November 29th , 2007

Yay for a month of inactivity! School’s been kicking my ass the last few weeks, and there’s only two weeks left until Christmas break. Be good to get this semester finished.
I super cleaned the forums and installed some new anti-spam mods, so hopefully those god damn spyders will let up a bit. Unfortunately, I think I accidentally deleted some users while cleaning bots out, so if your account is gone, sorry, you’ll have to make a new one. New comic is up, some new pics is up. Hopefully the forum can start getting a little more active.
Now back to watching Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Happy Halloween!

Hulk Smash!

October 3rd , 2007

Page 04-02 is up. Got a couple days of freedom from homework. Woo.

Apparently the new Hulk movie is shooting in Toronto and is having an open casting for extras to come in and act like the populace on Thursday night/Friday morning. So my roommate is forming a posse to go down and “act”. Maybe if your lucky, you’ll see me on the bigscreen.
In other news, my top commissioner Zac is planning to publish a book and he’s asked me to illustrate it! It’s an illustrated “Rouges Gallery” of histories most vicious villains, and I’m friggin exited for this project. He’s submitting a rough draft in January, and hopefully after that we’ll have a publishing contract (or however that works…)
Stay tuned for more news on that!

Now to watch some Star Trek and eat strawberry icecream.

Back Again. Chapter 04 Start

September 27th , 2007

Back again after a month long “break”! School is in full swing now, so I’ll be cranking out stuff left, right, and center. Hopefully I’ll be getting locust back on track, so start expecting “regular” updates again.
Now I’m tired so bleh.

Website Revisions Complete

Auguest 29st , 2007

Alright, got my planned website updates completed. The online Store is now online, so please feel free to purchase some comics and prints! The Appendix and History sections are up and running and will receive continual updates. The forums have received a much needed cleaning and code updating to protect against those annoying spam bots. And finally, Locust: 03 has received some extensive artwork updates.

Welcome to my website if you’re a newcomer, please have a look around at the comic and galleries, join the forums, maybe buy some stuff and tell your friends!
